Sources report that the all-new Defender will be introduced in 2007 as a 2008 model. It will retain its image as the purest, most committed model in Land Rover's lineup.
Land Rover is keen on cultivating the no-nonsense image of the Defender. The new model will remain functional and classic in design, but is expected to be a bit softer for the fun-seeking, less-affluent members of the market.
Now under Ford Motor Company's wings, the next Defender will be built with a new, modern body design on a steel frame. SWB, LWB and soft-top versions are in the works.
Petrol engines will come from Ford. A direct-injection 4 cylinder, a 3.0 Duratec V6, and a 3.8 V6. Peugeot will supply a 2.7 turbodiesel V6. The last engine was just introduced on the Discovery 3.
